Roberts teen killed in Blaine County rollover

A Roberts teen died Wednesday when his SUV went off the highway and rolled over several times in Blaine County.

Roberto C. Gonzales-Reyes, 17, was driving a silver Isuzu Ascender on U.S. Highway 26/93 when his car went off the road, a Blaine County Sheriff’s Office news release said. Sheriff’s Office deputies and first responders from the Carey Quick Response Unit and Wood River Fire and Rescue responded to the accident near mile marker 196.2. Gonzales-Reyes had been ejected from the car and was declared deceased at the scene.

Juan P. Garcia, 17, was found inside the car. Garcia, also from Roberts, was transported to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello and is in stable condition.

Idaho State Police assisted at the crash scene. Sheriff’s Office investigators determined the vehicle was traveling south when it went off the road. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation.
