I.F. man arrested for attempted strangulation


Idaho Falls police arrested an Idaho Falls man Friday for attempted strangulation and aggravated assault.

Felix Manzanares, 36, was booked into Bonneville County Jail after he reportedly choked his 33-year-old girlfriend at their shared residence on the 1100 block of St. Clair Road.

According to a news release, police responded to a domestic disturbance call from the victim’s 17-year-old daughter around 5:30 p.m.

Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said Manzanares attempted to choke the victim in their bedroom during an argument. The struggle continued in the kitchen, where Manzanares again attempted to choke her and pulled out a knife, threatening her.

Manzanares reportedly left the scene after the police were dispatched and was arrested nearby.

The Idaho Falls Police Department

refused to release the victim’s name Monday on the advice of the Idaho Falls City Attorney’s office.

Attempted strangulation is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Aggravated assault is also punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
