Idaho Falls man charged with molesting children

An Idaho Falls man, already in custody for an unrelated misdemeanor, was served with a warrant charging him with molesting two children.

Paul Castro IV, 31, was incarcerated in the Bonneville County Jail when he was served with the warrant and arrested Thursday.

Castro was charged with lewd conduct with a child younger than 16 and two counts of sexually abusing a child younger than 16. The victims, an 11-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy, were molested multiple times, authorities said.

Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said the mother of the children reported the abuse April 21. The incidents took place over the course of two years at Castro’s former residence in the 900 block of J Street, Hansen said.

Castro remained in custody Friday. His bond was set at $50,000.

In 2013, Castro was charged with soliciting sex from a 13-year-old. Pursuant to a plea agreement, the charge was amended down to felony injury to a child. Castro served 120 days in jail and was placed on probation for eight years.

Lewd conduct with a child younger than 16 is punishable by up to life in prison. Sexual abuse of a child younger than 16 is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
