The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the 17-year-old Idaho Falls girl killed in a rollover crash just after midnight this morning.
The victim was identified as Tiana Hailey Cardona, said Capt. Sam Hulse.
Bonneville County Deputies responded to a single vehicle fatality crash at 8300 West 17th South, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
The vehicle was traveling westbound on 17th South at a high rate of speed and the driver lost control on the gravel road and rolled, the release said. Cardona was ejected. Six people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Cardona, who attended Skyline High School, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jeff Edwards. The other five people in the vehicle, all from Idaho Falls, were transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
A 17-year-old boy was the driver. After being medically treated he was taken into custody and booked into 3B Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of vehicular manslaughter. Edwards said alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The driver’s blood alcohol content was checked with a blood test, Edwards said.
The investigation is ongoing.
