The Idaho Falls City Council agreed to annex and rezone a parcel of land to make way for a proposed Camping World.
Council members took the action Thursday on the 37-acre triangular parcel, located south of Pancheri Drive, east of Skyline Drive and northwest of Interstate 15.
Camping World, a recreational vehicle and RV accessory chain store, will occupy 13 of those acres. Efforts to reach Camping World representatives Friday were unsuccessful.
“It’s going to be exciting to see that parcel develop,” Council President Michael Lehto said.
The area had been set aside for residential building, but none appeared to be on the horizon.
“It’s been 20-plus years since that (land) has been zoned for high-occupancy residential, basically apartment-type buildings,” Lehto said. “You don’t see that develop too much, and apparently we weren’t going to see it develop at all.”
Once Camping World opens, Lehto said the store could spur more commercial development on the remainder of the site.
“It will be noticeable from the freeway,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing that project move forward.”
