I.F. man dies after watercraft collide

A 22-year-old Idaho Falls died Monday from injuries suffered in a Sunday crash between two personal watercraft at Ririe Reservoir.

Lakoda Stommel, 22, of Idaho Falls died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center during surgery, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jeff Edwards said.

Bonneville County deputies responded to the Blacktail Boat Ramp at 4:08 p.m. in reference to an injury collision between two watercraft, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Edwards said Stommel and Matthew Harmon, 28, of Idaho Falls were in a group of people who were borrowing watercraft from a mutual friend.

Edwards said the two were riding in the same area of the lake when they collided.

Stommel reportedly went into cardiac arrest. When emergency responders arrived, Stommel was taken to a dock where he was administered CPR and revived prior to being transported by Idaho Falls Ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Edwards said Stommel died around 1 a.m. Monday.

Harmon suffered minor injuries and was not transported. The investigation is ongoing. Both men were wearing life jackets at the time of the crash.
