Jury acquits I.F. man of aggravated battery charge

A Bonneville County jury acquitted an Idaho Falls man of two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery June 4.

Ron Myers, 49, pleaded not guilty to the charges in an incident involving his son and daughter-in-law. After a two-day trial, a Bonneville County jury deliberated for eight hours before acquitting Myers of the charges.

Bonneville County Deputy Prosecutor Danny Clark said Myers and his defense attorney, Scott Davis, claimed self-defense. Efforts to reach Davis for comment Wednesday were unsuccessful.

Myers was arrested Jan. 27 on the 1400 block of 12th Street by Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies.

The arrest was made two weeks after the incident involving Myers’ son, Paul Myers, 30, and daughter-in-law, Malissa Myers, both of Blackfoot. At the time of the incident, authorities said the three were at an apartment above a private horse arena at 1438 W. 97th South.
