Jefferson County Sheriff Blair Olsen has released the name of the rafter who went missing Sunday on the South Fork of the Snake River.
Mason Empey, 21, of Idaho Falls reportedly jumped off the 12-foot raft he and 20-year-old Torrey Reinhart were on after they lost an oar, the sheriff said.
Olsen said the men lost the oar when the raft hit some rocks and debris roughly 1.5 miles upstream of the Lorenzo boat ramp, which is off U.S. Highway 20 near Yellowstone Bear World.
Olsen said Reinhart of Idaho Falls was able to guide the boat to shore and get help, but Empey was nowhere to be found.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies, Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies and Madison County Sheriff’s deputies continued to search for Empey on Monday.
