The Bonneville County Democratic Central Committee passed a resolution Tuesday night in support of a proposed community college.
The decision comes shortly after the Bonneville County Republican Central Committee passed a resolution opposing the measure.
The Democrats’ resolution emphasizes both the economic benefits projected by Brigham Young University-Idaho economists ($66 million in economic activity) and the importance of an educated populace for a democratic republic.
“A well-educated populace is a foundation of our community, county, state and country,” the resolution states.
The community college effort has won broad support from elected officials throughout the region.
The issue will be on the ballot May 16.
