The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate shootings that occurred over the weekend.
Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, a Sheriff’s Office news release said. The deputies found a woman, 43, injured from a gunshot wound to the head. A 15-year-old boy was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and is expected to survive, the release said. Investigators are withholding the location of the shooting and the names of the victim for concerns of privacy of the family.
The second shooting, which occurred early Sunday, was an accident involving juveniles playing with a gun, the release said. A 16-year-old boy was driving while one of his friends played with a .45 caliber handgun in the back seat. The rear passenger accidentally discharged the weapon, shooting himself in the left hand and the driver in the back. Another passenger, 14, was uninjured. The injured teens were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Deputies arrived at the hospital 1:17 a.m. Sunday to interview the teens. The release said the victims are cooperating with investigators.
