Man arrested for making threats with gun

An Idaho Falls man was arrested Dec. 19 after he reportedly threatened a man with a gun in Roberts.

Donald Tyson Likes, 21, went to the victim’s home on Dec. 18 where his ex-girlfriend and the victim were playing with a new cat. Likes kicked the door in, according to court records, and entered the home with an unidentified man. The victim said he escorted Likes and the other man out of the home.

When the three reached the porch, Likes reportedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim’s stomach. The unidentified man also brandished a handgun and pointed it at the victim.

The victim told Likes guns weren’t necessary. The two men put the guns away and left, with Likes saying,” This is how we take care of things.”

The Idaho Falls Police Department arrested Likes in Idaho Falls and turned him over to the Rigby Police Department. He was taken to Jefferson County Jail. Likes did not have a handgun with him when he was arrested.

Likes told police he wanted to talk to his ex-girlfriend, and when she refused, he left without threatening anyone.

Likes has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or instrument without the intent to kill, punishable with up to 20 years in prison. He was also charged with unlawful entry, a misdemeanor punishable with up to a year in jail.

The other man was identified, but has not been charged for the incident.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. A no-contact order was issued between Likes, the victim and his ex-girlfriend.
