Letter to the editor: Property tax vs. income tax

Property tax vs. income tax

Received Nov. 15

After reading the article about the complicated renewal district, it has become apparent that the property tax must be abolished in favor of a local income tax.

The City of Idaho Falls should petition the state Legislature to allow local income taxes, including counties, school districts, etc. Local taxing districts can be trusted to handle a quarter percent tax, which would be collected by the state taxing department. Property taxing is a large part of the state budget. Even a quarter percent local sales tax would be better.
