Letter to the editor: Speaking of guns

Speaking of guns

Received Feb. 27

I’m over 70 years old, and have carried for over 50 years. I don’t carry because I like to, but at least six times I’ve had it when I felt I needed it. I like guns for their power and mechanical intricacies and construction.

I have what I believe is at least a partial solution to gun violence. I believe that if a person is convicted of committing a crime of violence while in possession of a weapon, he should spend five years in prison, period.

I believe that it should be written that prosecutors may not plea bargain it away for another conviction. That goes for any weapon, including rocks, knives, cars, etc.

I hope to see responses to this idea. I don’t like to feel that I should need to carry to feel safe.
