Shelley High School was one of six Idaho schools to earn the Schools of Excellence award the Idaho High School Activities Association announced Monday, an award honoring a school’s overall performance in academic, athletic, sportsmanship and citizenship.
One school in each of the six classifications earned the distinction and Shelley won the 3A award. Rocky Mountain, Twin Falls, Declo, Genesee and Lighthouse Christian were similarly honored. Each school will receive a plaque for their School of Excellence status.
Schools that finished second and third in the Schools of Excellence calculation earned Exemplary Achievement status. Among eastern Idaho schools earning the Exemplary Achievement status were Snake River, Firth and Challis.
In addition to the primary awards, Ririe and Snake River scored a 90 percent or higher on the citizenship calculation (no player/coach ejections, unsportsmanlike school behavior) and earned the Award of Excellence.
