Former Idaho Falls Chukars Frank Schwindel and outfielder Dominique Taylor are having all-star seasons at the next level.
The duo, who were key members of the Chukars 2013 Pioneer League championship team, were named South Atlantic League All-Stars on Tuesday. They now play for the Kansas City Royals’ single-A affiliate Lexington (Ky.) Legends.
Schwindel tore up the league last week, hitting .414 with six home runs and 16 RBIs in seven games. The first baseman/catcher, who was an 18th-round pick last year out of St. John’s, is hitting .272 with nine homers and 32 RBIs for the season. Schwindel hit .300 with six homers and 42 RBIs in 64 games with the Chukars last season.
Taylor, a 15th-round pick out of UC-Irvine in 2013, is hitting .308 with four homers, 21 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. The outfielder batted .322 with eight home runs, 37 RBIs and 13 steals last year.
Voting for the South Atlantic League All-Stars was done by managers and coaching staffs, media and front office executives.
The All-Star game is scheduled for June 17 in Hickory, N.C.
The Idaho Falls Chukars begin defense of their 2013 championship against the Orem Owlz on June 16 at Melaleuca Field.
