HS boys roundup: Skyline edges Bees 45-40

At Skyline, the Skyline High School boys basketball team utilized a 23-point fourth quarter to rally to beat Bonneville 45-40.

Bonneville led 26-22 heading into the fourth quarter. After an and-1 from Jaden Landes, the Grizzlies took a one-point lead with about two minutes to play after another and-1 from Cruz Taylor.

Landes led all scorers with 18 points.

“We shot well down the stretch,” Skyline coach Clint Cornish said. “And our defense kept us in it late.”

Taylor added 10 for the Grizzlies (4-4), who are off until a Jan. 3 home game against Madison. Tycen Biggs had 11 points while Randon Hostert added 10 for Bonneville (4-7), which is off until a Jan. 3 home game against Twin Falls.

MADISON 68, BLACKFOOT 49: At Rexburg, the Bobcats extended their win streak to six by downing the Broncos with a stout second half.

Madison outscored Blackfoot 37-23 in the second half.

“I’m just really proud of our guys’ effort,” Madison coach Travis Schwab said. “That third quarter was a big difference for us.”

Madison, which had seven different players make a 3-pointer, was led by Brigham Williams’ 18 points and got 11 points from Joe Dougherty. The Bobcats (7-2) host Sky View, Utah, on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Madison Middle School.

ABERDEEN 66, NORTH FREMONT 34: At Ashton, the Huskies struggled to score throughout and had to play without starting point guard Chris Hansen in a nonconference loss to Aberdeen.

North Fremont coach Bryan Miller said his team “couldn’t buy a bucket.” The Huskies shot 18 percent from the field Friday night.

“We’re not gonna make excuses,” Miller said. “We own up for tonight. It was a tough night for us and hopefully we’re gonna learn from this.”

Garrett Hawkes had 14 points while Peyton Litton added nine for North Fremont (4-5), which is off until a Jan. 4 game at Shelley.

The Cougars, who led 22-14 at halftime and 34-20 after three quarters, outrebounded Salmon 41-19. Kyler Yancey had 12 of those rebounds for South Fremont.

“We worked hard on the boards and it paid off for us,” South Fremont coach Ryon Pope said.

Hunter Tarkalson and Ethan Aldous had 12 points each for Salmon (2-6), which is off until a Jan. 6 game at American Falls.

Reece Yancey had 15 points while Tagg Bair had 11 for South Fremont (2-5), which competes in the three-day Parma Tournament beginning Wednesday.
