HS Roundup: Bees girls move to 13-1 to begin 2018

At Bonneville High School, the Bonneville girls basketball team held Skyline to single-digit scoring in three quarters en route to a 65-21 nonconference win to begin 2018.

The Bees led 21-1 after the first quarter.

“I challenged them to come out from Christmas break with a lot of intensity and to get after it defensively and they did,” Bonneville coach Amy Wood said. “They came out firing from the get go.”

Brooklyn Cunningham had a game-high 15 points while Cortney McDonald added 13 and Makayla Sorensen had 11 for Bonneville (13-1), which plays Thursday at Rigby.

Lizzie Bialas had five points for Skyline (3-11), which hosts Pocatello on Thursday.

Down 4-1 after the first quarter, Blackfoot outscored Hillcrest 51-36 in the final three quarters to move to 9-5 on the season.

Hillcrest coach Alan Sargent said the Knights’ 12 first-half turnovers hampered their offensive production early. Blackfoot led 17-8 at halftime.

“We just couldn’t find the basket early,” Sargent said. “We just started flat.”
