Chukars’ playoff chances take a dip in 7-6 loss

The Idaho Falls Chukars’ playoff chances took a hit Saturday evening at Melaleuca Field.

The Grand Junction Rockies defeated the Chukars in a close bout, 7-6, in front of about 2,582 fans.

The Chukars fall to 30-39 on the season and 13-18 on the second-half of the season. Grand Junction keeps its playoff hopes alive at 35-34, 17-14 in the second-half of the season.

The Chukars are seven games back from first place and are one loss away from elimination. They have seven games left in their regular season.

Saturday, the Chukars took an early 6-1 lead before the Rockies notched six runs in the fifth and sixth frame to barely win.

Julio Gonzalez lead all Chukars’ offensively, going 3 for 4 at the plate and one RBI. Chris Hudgins also had two RBIs on 1 for 4 plate appearances.

The Rockies Jefry Valdez recorded his eighth save of the season striking out three Chukars in the bottom of the ninth.

Idaho Falls return to Melaleuca Field Sunday to play a two-game series against Orem. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
