Bonneville sweeps way into semis; Oct. 30 state volleyball roundup

The Bees defeated Columbia 25-20, 25-17 25-12, then topped Century 25-22, 26-24, 25-15.
“They’re a nice team and they pushed us today,” Bonneville coach Chantal McMurtrey said of Columbia. “It was a good way to start the tournament. We came ready to play and we played good offense in the match. Makayla Keck did a nice job of setting up the offense.”
In the first match, Kylee Searle had 13 kills, 17 digs and one ace; Mailie Garner ended with 13 kills, 18 digs and one ace; Susan Lindley had 11 kills and an ace; Katie Harker had 13 digs with three aces; and Makayla Keck had 39 assists and 11 digs.
Against the Diamondbacks, Garner ended with 13 kills and 15 digs. Lindley had 11 kills and two aces; Searle had 10 kills and 20 digs; Harker finished with 16 digs; and Keck had 35 assists, eight digs and three kills.
“Garner played amazing in that game,” McMurtrey said. “She had some spectacular digs that were momentum changers. They match us defensively, but we did a good job of blocking at the net. It was a great match.”
The Bees will play in the semifinals at noon today at Post Falls High School Sandpoint.
Sandpoint 3, Hillcrest 0;
Hillcrest 3, Minico 0: At Post Falls, the Knights dropped their opener to the Bulldogs 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 but defeated Minico 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.
McKenna Herrera and Allie Sargent had six kills apiece and teammate Amy Biddulph finished with five kills in the match against Sandpoint. Against Minico, Herrera had 14 kills, Biddulph had 12 kills, and Sargent had five kills and four blocks.
“Against Minico, we took control of the match, dictated tempo and controlled from beginning to end,” Hillcrest coach Dean Goodworth said. “Sandpoint was strong all the way around. The kids played well with them. This is the first time any of these kids have been to state so they are doing good.”
Hillcrest will play at 10:30 a.m. today in Post Falls against Century.
Class 5A
Idaho Falls 3, Borah 1
Rocky Mountain 3, Idaho Falls 0
At Coeur d’Alene, the Tigers topped the Lions 25-21, 25-18, 17-25 25-20.
Megan Spofford had 19 kills and two blocks, Kathy Collette ended with 10 kills and two aces and Kaitlyn Johnson had 28 assists, two aces and 10 digs in the match.
“One thing we did well was receive and passed well, so we had some good hits and good things happened in the win,” Tigers coach Wendy Johnson said.
In the loss to Rocky Mountain, Spofford had 11 kills, Hayley Farrer had eight kills, 15 assists and one ace and Meghan Hess finished with six kills.
The Tigers will play at 9 a.m. today at Lake City High School against Centennial.
Class 3A
Sugar-Salem 3, Snake River 1;
St. Maries 3, Sugar-Salem 2: At Coeur d’Alene, the Diggers topped Snake River before losing to St. Maries.
“Jocelyn Ostermiller did well and our setter, Rebekah Taylor, played really well,” Diggers coach Melissa Hartsock said. “We mixed things up and played one of our better games. Everyone did real well.”
Sugar-Salem will play at 10:30 a.m. at Coeur d’Alene High School against the winner of Shelley and Priest River.
Class 2A
Butte County 3, Grangeville 2
Nampa Christian 3, Butte County 0: At Rathdrum, the Pirates outgunned Grangeville but dropped a match to Nampa Christian.
“In the first match, Chelsie Pope had 12 kills, six blocks and 11 digs,” Butte County coach Brecia Hansen said. “She had seven kills, two blocks and 10 digs in the second match for us. The kids did well today.”
The Pirates will play at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeland High School against the winner of the Declo-Grace match.
West Jefferson 3, Declo 0
Parma 3, West Jefferson 0
At Rathdrum, in their opener the Panthers defeated Declo 25-17, 25-21 25-14 before falling to Parma 25-17, 25-21, 25-14.
West Jefferson’s junior outside hitters Tiffany McDonald and Cherisse Amy led the way with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
“Our match was a little bit spooky, which sometimes the first match at state is,” Panthers coach John Hansen said. “Lindsey Cope did a great job serving in the second set. Her serves really gave us a lot of confidence.”
1A Division 1
Challis 3, Rimrock 0
Genesee 3 Challis 0
At Lewiston, Challis split at Lewis and Clark State College. The Vikings beat Rimrock before losing to Genesee.
Lauren Garlie had 23 kills, Rachelle Chamberlain had 15 kills and 28 assists; Nicole Helm had 20 assists and Marlae Moss had seven kills in both games combined.
“I thought the girls played well in the win,” Challis coach Debbie Sheppeard said. “We had to come from behind in the first match and in the second one we really never got our game flowing.”
Challis will play at 10:30 a.m. today against the winner of Shoshone-Lapwai.
1A Division II
Dietrich 3, Clark County 0
Clark County fell to Dietrich 25-21, 25-11, 25-21 in the first round. No details were available.楮
