Blackfoot stymies BK; Mackay advances in blowout
By mlycklama • Nov 6th, 2009 • Category: Football, NewsAt Boise, Blackfoot High School running back Chris Percy rushed for three touchdowns to lead No. 2 Blackfoot past No. 3 Bishop Kelly 27-14 in a 4A state football playoff quarterfinal Friday night.
“Chris has always been a big factor,” Blackfoot coach Stan Buck said. “He’s just been hurt. It’s the first game he’s finished since he got hurt.”
Percy injured his ankle against Pocatello seven weeks ago, forcing him to miss the Rigby and Century games. He’s been hampered since then, but still managed to rush for 520 yards entering the game.
And with Bishop Kelly keying on quarterback Anthony Clarke in Blackfoot’s speed option, Percy romped all night long.
Bishop Kelly held a 7-0 halftime lead before a pair of Percy touchdowns made it 14-7. A pick-six of a Clarke pass allowed Bishop Kelly to tie the game, but Percy capped his night with the game-winning touchdown.
Nate Walker scored Blackfoot’s final touchdown when he returned a Bishop Kelly interception for six points on the final play of the game.
Stats were not available at press time.
Blackfoot (9-1) travels to Twin Falls (6-4) on Friday for the 4A semifinals.
Class 1A Division 2
Mackay 56, Dietrich 8: At Mackay, the Miners scored three touchdowns in the final three and half minutes of the first half to break open the game and cruise to a win in the first round of the 1A Division 2 playoffs.
Dietrich connected on a 55-yard touchdown pass on its first possession, then didn’t score again.
Quarterback Kole Krosch got the Miners started with a 19-yard touchdown run. Justin Warner added a 54-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion pass from Krosch to take a 14-8 lead after one quarter.
But the second quarter proved to be the difference as Mackay outscored Dietrich 36-0.
Krosch three three TD passes in the quarter — 26 yards to CJ Barnhart, 5 yards to Zach Donnot and 24 yards to Warner — and added a 78-yard TD run.
The final three scores were the backbreakers for Dietrich. Leading 30-0, Mackay took over on its own 15 with three and half minutes left in the half. Three plays later, Krosch scored from 78 yards. Mackay recovered the ensuing kickoff at the Dietrich 12, and scored two plays later on a 5-yard pass from Krosch to Donnot. After a Dietrich interception, Mackay scored again, this time on a 24-yard pass from Krosch to Warner.
“That just took them completely out of it,” Mackay coach Lance Rosenkrance said. “We took advantage of the opportunity, were aggressive and attacked.”
Krosch finished with 216 yards rushing on 10 carries and completed 6 of 9 passes for 108 yards. Warner added 10 carries for 108 yards rushing and had three catches for 41 yards.
Defensive end Dylan Hoagland and middle linebacker Cody Morgan stood out on defense.
“They both played very well,” Rosenkrance said. “They made some big plays for us.”
The Miners will play in the state semifinals next week, likely at Holt Arena. The opponent, day and time have not been determined.
