HS Roundup:West J girls begin Aberdeen tourney 2-0

At Aberdeen, the West Jefferson High School girls basketball team went 2-0 on the first day of the East Idaho Tournament at Aberdeen High School, defeating Aberdeen 58-19 and American Falls 59-37.

Against Aberdeen, West Jefferson jumped out to a 23-4 lead and never surrendered the lead.

Jordi Holdaway led the way with 21 points.

Against American Falls, West Jefferson led 35-15 at halftime and used solid defense and transition to earn its 12th win of the season, West Jefferson coach Jalena Dixon said.

“We just played well as a team in both games,” Dixon said.

Saige Moss and Saige Kirkpatrick each had 12 points.

West Jefferson (12-1) will play Malad at 7 p.m. tonight for the tournament title.

The Trojans’ day began with a 45-39 loss to Bishop Kelly before defeating Elko by 26.

Rigby coach Troy Shippen said Mateya Mobley’s rebounding was a difference maker against Elko.

“She was a spark off the bench for us,” Shippen said.

Shippen added that Rigby and Elko were tied after the first quarter, but the Trojans’ lead grew to prompt a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Despite 15 points from Reece Yancey, Parma utilized eight 3-pointers to pull away in the second half.

“We missed a lot of two-pointers tonight,” South Fremont coach Ryan Pope said. “If we can fix that, we’ll be okay. They’re definitely good team, but welve got room for improvement.”

South Fremont (3-6) concludes the Parma Holiday Tournament today against Nampa Christian.
