More than two years ago, two young women hoping to raise funds for affordable housing dipped their wheels in the Atlantic Ocean, faced west, and started for the Pacific along with a group of other riders. On Friday one of the women, Laura Stark of Michigan, finally dipped her wheel near Haystack Rock on the Oregon coast.

Standing on the stage, amid 12 other award recipients LaDean Harmston didn’t know she was supposed to give a speech. As each person stepped forward to receive the 2018 Esto Perpetua Award, they talked about what they did to help preserve state history, and Harmston knew she had to say something.

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Cellular phone service in Yellowstone National Park will see improvements this summer despite criticism from some that argue increased connectivity takes away from the serenity of the country’s first national park.
