Idaho v. Kimball Mason -- investigation timeline
August 2005 Jimmie Caudle wants the police department to return two guns that were seized during his 2002 arrest. Records showed Idaho Falls prosecutor Kimball Mason had used an invalid forfeiture order to confiscate the guns. September 2005 Idaho Falls Police Chief J. Kent Livsey becomes suspicious when he learns how Mason handled the seizure and sale of 1993 Suburban a few months earlier. October 2005 Mason returns the Suburban, which remained titled to the original owner, to police under a directive from Livsey. November 2005 Mason is confronted regarding forfeiture of numerous items over the years, including 51 guns between Jan. 1, 2001 and July 19, 2005. Nov. 5, 2005 City attorney Dale Storer contacts the Idaho Attorney General's Office after Livsey says Mason sold the Suburban to former Bonneville County deputy prosecutor Darren Robins, and that Mason traded and sold seized guns. Nov. 15, 2005 A formal investigation is launched. Nov. 28, 2005 December 2005 Mason placed on administrative leave without pay. January 2006 Mason voluntarily resigns. Jan. 17, 2006 February 2006 March 2006 Felony charges filed against Mason. Two counts of grand theft and one count of falsifying a public document. March 20, 2006 April 2006 Mason pleads guilty to charges. April 19, 2006 May 2006 Mason sentenced. May 30, 2006
