State investigating I.F. prosecutorProbe reportedly involves property seizures from Kimball Mason's cases
The state Attorney General's Office is investigating Idaho Falls Prosecuting Attorney Kimball Mason at the city's request. The matter involves property seizures from cases Mason handled, said City Attorney Dale Storer, adding that he couldn't elaborate because the investigation is ongoing. Reached at his house late Thursday night, Mason said the investigation was "news to me." He refused to comment. Storer said he received information regarding Mason a few months ago and forwarded it to the attorney general's office Nov. 21. Idaho Falls Mayor Linda Milam wouldn't say who brought up the issues involving Mason, but she said they were important enough to warrant an investigation. "We thought they needed to be looked into," she said. Mason will continue to serve as city prosecutor during the investigation, Milam said. When asked whether city government would be involved in any way, she said, "Not until the investigation is done." City Council Councilwoman Ida Hardcastle said she wasn't privy to any details of the investigation. "I know nothing," Hardcastle said. "And that's been done deliberately, I'm sure." Efforts to reach the attorney general's office were unsuccessful. Storer said he thought it would take two to three weeks before any findings from the investigation are released.
