Shelley-Fruitland matchup highlights state finals


Two programs familiar with the 3A state finals and each other will square off again with a state title on the line.

Shelley (10-1) will go for its second straight 3A state title and sixth since 2003 when it meets Fruitland (10-1) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Holt Arena as part of a championship tripleheader. Fruitland is making its eighth straight appearance in the 3A title game, having won titles in 2010 and 2006.

The Grizzlies and Russets are meeting in the finals for the second straight year and for the fourth time since 2007. Shelley beat Fruitland in the title game in 2012 (37-10), 2009 (25-14) and 2007 (19-13).

In 5A, Highland (11-0) goes for its first 5A state title since 2008 when it takes on Coeur d'Alene (8-3) at 7 p.m. Friday at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow. Highland beat Coeur d'Alene 24-21 on Sept. 21 at Holt Arena.

In 4A, Bishop Kelley (11-0) tries to cap off an undefeated season with a win over District 3 rival Skyview (10-1) in Friday's 7:30 p.m. championship game at Bronco Stadium. BK handed Skyview its only loss of the season, 14-10 in the season opener.

In 2A, West Side (10-1) takes on defending champion Declo (9-2) at 5 p.m. Saturday at Holt Arena.

In 1A Division I, two undefeated teams square off when Troy (11-0) takes on Hagerman (12-0) at noon Saturday at Holt Arena.

And in 1A Division II, Salmon River (11-0) tries to make it two straight titles when it takes on Council (9-2) at 5 p.m. Friday at Bronco Stadium.
