Rodel back for fourths at Thanksgiving event

Mark Rodel won his fourth men's singles title at the Ron Sayer BMW Thanksgiving Tennis Championships this past week, giving him four wins in the past seven years at the event.

Adding to his victories in 2006, 2008 and last year, Rodel overcame spirited opposition from high school junior Orin Duffin, needing a tie-break in the second set.

Duffin had eliminated arch nemesis Josh Good-win from Pocatello in his semifinal. Rodel also dispatched Jared Lamph. Lamph won the men's 4.0 singles division.

Lamph added a second title when teaming with Brian Nelson in men's 4.0 doubles. Howard Hendry and Chuck Worton beat out Eric Horner and Mika Ockerman for prize money in men's 3.5 doubles.

In other singles play Aimee Powell defeated Holli Turner in a three set final for the women's 3.0 crown.

Heath Hartman was the measure of top doubles play, capturing first the men's doubles crown with Jesse Haas, following it up in mixed doubles partnering with Madison Maloney, both in the open division.

In women's 3.0 doubles Holli Turner and partner Collette Bott were more fortunate, deciding the final against Katie Bruno and Kelly Horner in their favor.

Jacqui Davis and Margo Nef succeeded in women's 3.5 doubles play.

Brian and LuJean Tallman proved wrong the old adage that husband and wife teams do not successfully play mixed doubles, claiming the 3.5 title.
