REXBURG -- Local businesses today are celebrating the return of Brigham Young University-Idaho students with the 11th annual Rexburg Unplugged.
More than 50 local businesses will be on hand to provide entertainment booths, games, food and prizes. The event is highlighted by the Battle of the Bands from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hemming Village, 140 W. Second South.
Local rock 'n' roll, indie folk and alternative pop bands, including Friends on a Rocketship, Fight to Win, Heat Monster, The Huckster, The Last Gatsby and Auburn Hills will perform. The crowd will choose the winner.
Last year's event attracted more than 2,000 people and Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Donna Benfield said she expects even more today.
Albertsons Manager Kevin Stevens said his store is giving away 25 bags of groceries during the event, including other food and prizes, to students who can correctly answer various trivia questions.
"It will be so much fun because we love to mingle with the college kids in our town," Stevens said. "It's such a fun crowd to spend a Saturday afternoon with, as we welcome them to get to know their local services."
Each BYU-Idaho student will receive a welcome packet at the event.
