Embarrassed and ashamed
Received June 11
I have been a member of the Republican Party for 30 years and can't help but be embarrassed and ashamed by the Idaho Republican Party's latest attempt to limit people's ability to have a voice. They want only candidates that the Central Committee endorses to be in the primary. This would allow 45 people to decide on who is on the primary ballot. Does this sound like the type of idea that our founding fathers had in mind?
America was founded on the idea that anyone can be elected to represent their community, not that a few people should be allowed to choose who gets elected. This is an issue that should outrage every person in Idaho! The people of Idaho should be the ones to decide who gets elected.
We are supposed to live in a democracy, but this would make Idaho far from a democracy. In a time when Republicans continually draw criticism for being exclusionary and elitist, I fail to see how this will help to restore the reputation of Republicans and attract new party members. (Word count: 179)
