One dies in Christmas fire near Blackfoot

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of a fire that killed a Blackfoot-area man Christmas night.

The name of the victim -- an adult male -- was withheld Wednesday because officials were still working to make a positive identification, Blackfoot Fire Department Capt. Dave Krumenacker said.

Fire officials believe the man was alone in the mobile home when the fire broke out.

Investigators also were trying to determine how the fire started in the single-wide mobile home located at 380 N. 1200 West, about 11 miles northwest of the city of Blackfoot, Krumenacker said.

A telephone call reporting the fire was received at 7:23 p.m. Tuesday. When firefighters arrived a short time later, Krumenacker said, the mobile home was engulfed in flames. He described it as a total loss.

"The trailer basically collapsed on itself," Krumenacker said.

About three hours later, shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Krumenacker said, firefighters responded to a second blaze -- this one located in a Blackfoot home located on the 600 block of Clifford Street. That fire was confined to a small area of the home's attic.

No injuries were reported.
