Remembering Knut

Received Sept. 9

Modest, unpretentious, eloquent, quiet, compassionate and brilliant are the words which best describe my recently deceased friend, Knut Meyerin.

I first met Knut in 2003 while he was working on the staff of Sen. Larry Craig. My son and his wife were confronted with what seemed to be insurmountable difficulties in their efforts to adopt a child in Latin America. With the exception of Knut Meyerin, almost all of the government officials they had contacted for help seemed too busy or too indifferent to lend assistance, or sought to convince them that the process required too much red tape to unravel. Knut refused to accept that scenario and worked tirelessly to make the contacts necessary for the adoption to proceed. It was miraculous. Because of Knut Meyerin we now have precious little Samuel, who has blessed our lives beyond measure.

Knut Meyerin was a prince of a man. His compassionate service will be missed by the city of Idaho Falls and by the state of Idaho. (Word count: 166)
