Snake River routs Malad

At Moreland, the Snake River High School girls basketball team turned a three-point first-quarter lead into a 21-point margin at halftime and cruised to a 56-23 nonconference win over Malad on Saturday.

"It started with our defense," Snake River coach Rich Dunn said. "Malad is a good team and they have some good posts, and Brylie Bair and Megan Peace did a good job of taking that away from them."

Bair scored 14 points to lead Snake River while Scout Baldwin added 10.

Snake River (11-1) opens league play at home Thursday against Bear Lake.

Soda Springs 49, Ririe 28: At Soda Springs, Ririe struggled out of the gate and fell to Soda Springs in a nonconference game.

The Bulldogs struggled in the first quarter without senior post Tasha Huff, who was benched for a quarter after missing a practice earlier in the week.

"She's just so important to us," Ririe coach Damian Smith said. "We don't give up 24 points in a quarter with her in the game. We just didn't play very well without her in there, and when she came in she had trouble getting into the game."

Sicilee Williams scored nine points to lead Ririe, which played Soda Springs even over the final three quarters.

Amy Johnson had seven points for the Bulldogs (8-4), who host American Falls on Wednesday.
