Bonneville places 3rd at Boise meet
The Bonneville High School wrestling team finished fifth out of 32 teams at the prestigious Bucks Bags dual tournament Saturday at Capital High School.
Bonneville knocked off Bishop Kelly, Skyview, Minico, Nampa and Spring Creek, Nev. and lost to Columbia en route to a 5-1 record.
"The team really wrestled tough and this is a good starting point to work from," Bonneville coach Zairrick Wadsworth said. "We haven't finished this high since I've been here."
Bonneville had three wrestlers go undefeated at 6-0, including Justin Holman (113), Jordan Vielma (195) and Spencer Moreau (220).
Skyline had a good showing in seventh place with a 4-2 record and lost one match by only one point. Skyline's Alex Schmidt (125) finished undefeated at 4-0.
Idaho Falls' Bridger Carpenter went 5-1 at 98 pounds and teammates Julius Vasquez (152) and Isaac Herrera (195) finished 4-2.
Wrestling at 126 pounds Hillcrest's Ky Webb finished with only one loss at the meet.
"We have a lot to work on and a real young team," Hillcrest coach Tarl Vickers said.
N. Fremont Invitational
The Teton Redskins recorded a perfect 8-0 record to win the North Fremont dual invite Saturday in Ashton.
"We've been anxious to see where we're at and it looks like we're headed in the right direction," Teton coach Richard Berry said.
Cade Cooke (113), Kody Hill (132), Chris Hoggan (152), Wyatt Christensen (170), Jesse Dewey (195) and Jake Hoggan (285) won their respective weight groups.
North Fremont's Aldon Bishop finished 8-0 at 120 pounds with teammate Shad Cordingley going 7-1 at 138 and 145 combined.
"We wrestled better today than last night, and we're happy with the effort" North Fremont coach Mat Clark said.
Wyatt Pennell (106), Chad Green (113), Chase Green (120/126) and Richard Anau (220) finished undefeated for the Madison Bobcats.
"The meet went really well even though we gave up five forfeit we still went 5-3," Madison coach Keven Glider said. "The team was close in every match and the kids wrestled tough."
South Fremont's Bubba Boots was perfect at 98 pounds as was teammate Jeret Angell at 170 pounds. Going 7-1 was Caleb Bischoff (126) and Hadley Fikstad (152).
"We went 5-3 and lost to some good teams," South Fremont coach Chance Eckman said.
Other local wrestlers going undefeated in the tournament were T.J. Thacker from Ririe at 126 and Bonneville's Daniel Quiroz at 160
The Blackfoot wrestling team traveled to Nephi, Utah for the Juab Invitational and finished second out of 24 teams at 7-1, losing only to Millard, Utah, in the dual meet.
Individually Tate Hansen (132) finished 8-0 with Chase Wasia (120) also running a perfect record.
"We were happy with the team's performance, but we still need to improve on our weaknesses," Blackfoot coach Thain Cashmore said.
Hamilton, Mont. Invite
The Salmon wrestling team finished fourth at the Hamilton Invitational. The meet was run in a traditional format with Salmon's Ryan Kesl won at 145 pounds. Second place winners were Conner Burley at 106 and Bill Godfrey at 113.
"We came out with a strong first round and lots of pins," Salmon coach Kellen Miller said. "The team was really aggressive."
Marsh Valley tournament
At the Marsh Valley dual tournament Firth had Layton Wasia (132) go 6-0 and Connor Montgomery (160), Matt Lindberg (170) and Luke Madsen (195) also go undefeated.
"Our young kids struggled and our older ones did well," Firth coach Keith Drake said.
