Time to accept reality
A gentle reminder to Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter: You lost. n Lost after you jump-started the ill-advised attempt to nullify the Affordable Care Act.
Lost when the United States Supreme Court upheld Obamacare's constitutionality.
Lost when Mitt Romney fell short in his presidential bid and Democrats retained the U.S. Senate, ending the GOP Obamacare repeal fantasy.
0 for 3 means it's time to accept reality. 0 for 3 means it's time for you to lead, and through executive order, comply with a key Obamacare tenant and create a state-run health care exchange.
You once again delayed making a decision about the exchange, an online marketplace where Idaho's uninsured can peruse private coverage plans. The feds gave recalcitrant states such as Idaho another month to kick this around and you plan to use the time to gather additional information.
What more do you need to know? If Idaho fails to establish a state exchange, the feds will do it for us. That explains why Idaho's business community is nearly unanimous in its support of a state exchange. Your own task force voted 10-2 to recommend creation of a state-run, nonprofit exchange.
You may not like it, Governor, but you are out of options. You encouraged subversion of the Constitution. That failed. You filed a lawsuit. That didn't work. And you counted on a Republican electoral sweep based on voter antipathy for federal health care reform. Instead, the nation, tired of seeing millions of fellow citizens suffering needlessly, supported the architects of Obamacare.
0 for 3 means Obamacare is here to stay. It's time to face the truth and do your job, Governor. You lost. And no amount of procrastination is going to change that.
