Mackay High School's Adam Lambert has a prestigious honor to remember his senior year by.

Lambert was named Idaho's male winner for the 2012 Wendy's High School Heisman Award on November 5.

He, along with Idaho's female winner, Sadie Stutzman of Fruitland High School, were chosen from 45,000 applicants across the Gem State for the award that acknowledges athletic and academic achievements.

"I was pretty surprised but excited about it," Lambert said of his reaction to receiving the honor.

As Idaho winners, Lambert and Stutzman have the opportunity to be named among the 12 national finalists from which the two National High School Heisman Winners will be selected Dec. 7 in New York City.

Lambert, who was a running back and defensive end for the Mackay football team, also competes in basketball and track for the Miners. Doing well in school was also a priority.

"I've just always made sure I got what I needed to done," Lambert said.

Lambert said he plans to go on his LDS mission after graduating and eventually study nuclear or mechanical engineering.
