Ashton Dam reservoir set to reopen

Ashton Reservoir will be filled to its normal elevation by Dec. 31 after three years of construction on the aging dam.

The reservoir was drawn down so crews could work on the dam's base.

Rocky Mountain Power resumed generating electricity from the dam Dec. 10.

The reservoir likely will be reopened to the public for recreational activities Jan. 4, according to a Rocky Mountain Power news release.

Crews had to refill the reservoir 26 feet to reach normal levels.

Concerns that construction drawdowns would introduce damaging sediment into the Henry's Fork of the Snake River, and that fluctuating water levels in the canal would leave farmers without water, proved unfounded.

"We appreciate nearby property owners and farmers' patience and understanding during the course of this project," project manager Troy Stout said.
