Owlz pitching shuts down Chukars
Orem pitching trio Aaron Newcomb, Mark Sappington, and Michael Morin combined for a three hitter to lift the Owlz to a 4-0 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars on Saturday at Brent Brown Ballpark in the third contest of a four-game road series.
The three Owlz aces also did not walk a single batter in the win.
The Owlz, who lead the Pioneer League South Division second half season standings at 5-2,
were scoreless with the Chukars until the third inning. Orem's four runs came off just six hits, led by center fielder Joel
Capote's 2 for 3 evening that included a double and two RBIs.
Chukars second baseman Carlos Garcia and designated hitter Nick DelGuidice each went 1 for 3 with a double. Right fielder Elier Hernandez recorded Idaho Falls' other hit, finishing the evening 1 for 4.
Sappington (1-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Owlz, allowing one hit and striking out five in three innings pitched. Zeb Sneed took the loss for the Chukars, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings pitched for his best performance in his last three starts. He struck out four and walked three.
The loss puts Idaho Falls at 4-3 and in second place behind Orem. The Chukars face the Owlz for the final time in this road series tonight in Orem with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
