Adkins, Chris Young to headline state fair
By ALEX STUCKEY
Trace Adkins will make sure "You're Gonna Miss This" year's Eastern Idaho State Fair once it's over.
Fair officials announced Wednesday that Adkins would be one of two concert headliners at the fair, which runs Aug. 31 to Sept. 7.
Adkins -- whose hits include "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk," "Hot Mama" and "You're Gonna Miss This" -- will perform Sept. 6. He has sold more than 10 million albums, according to the fair's website, www.fun atthefair.com.
The other headliner, Chris Young, will perform Sept. 5. Young was named 2011's Breakthrough Artist of the Year and has earned five consecutive No. 1 singles, according to the website.
The theme for the fair, "Feeding Frenzy," was announced Wednesday as well.
"Fair food is undeniably the best experience you'll have in eastern Idaho," General Manager Brandon Bird said.
The only problem, he said, is that you don't have time to eat it all. That's why the fair will have many activities that revolve around food, such as eating competitions.
The Gem State Classic Pro Rodeo will return this year.
"We hope to put ourselves on the map as one of the great small rodeos in the West," Bird said.
Fair officials also are bringing back the demolition derby.
"Every year we pack as much as we can into the fair," Bird said. "We probably pack too much into those eight days. That too much makes for a great value for those who come to the fair."
