Mr. Hoffman (Nov. 9) made some valid points in his critique of socialism, but he missed a couple.
The middle class he cites would not have grown without the advent of the unions as few capitalists would pay a sufficient wage to raise workers above the poverty level. Remember, they fought the union movement tooth and nail and at this date they have nearly succeeded as the middle class fades into the past.
Our present form of government, a democratic republic, is not functional as the House of Representatives has been proving for more than five years. (Word count: 97)
