Stutzman wins VB honor
Gatorade announced Wed-nesday that it has named Fruitland's Sadie Stutzman the 2012-13 Gatorade Idaho Volleyball Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-2 middle blocker has signed a national letter of intent to UNLV and is the first volleyball player from Fruitland to win the award, which selects a player of the year across all classifications.
The senior led Fruitland to a 34-6 record and class 3A state championship this fall while racking up 612 kills, 135 digs, 127 blocks, 74 aces and 24 assists. She also led Club Idaho to a 2012 Amateur Athletic Union Girls' Junior National Championship berth last summer.
"We played them in a tournament and I was very impressed," Bonneville coach Chantal McMurtrey said in a news release. "She's really quick, mobile and could hit anywhere on the net ... a very, very nice player."
The 4.0 student ranks No. 1 in her graduating class and is also a basketball and tennis standout.
Stutzman joins Century's Jenna Ellis (2011-12), Rocky Mountain's Megan Sorenson (2010-11), Eagle's Morgan Odale (2009-10 and 2008-09) and Eagle's Brittany Hewitt (2007-08) as recent winners of Idaho's Gatorade award.
