Woman arrested for fighting cops
An Idaho Falls woman faces a felony charge after allegedly fighting police and paramedics who were attempting to help her.
Idaho Falls police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said two officers responded to the 400 block of A Street at 1 a.m. Friday for reports of a potentially suicidal woman.
When they arrived, Crystal R. Sarkela, 40, reportedly threatened them with a hammer and initially refused to let them into her apartment.
After a series of negotiations, Sarkela dropped the hammer and let them in. When police began to take custody of her, Sarkela became combative and uncooperative, Hansen said. She allegedly fought and kicked police and paramedics when they attempted to get her into an ambulance for treatment.
Sarkela was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for treatment of a cut on her wrist and booked into the Bonneville County Jail upon her release.
Battery on certain personnel is a felony. If convicted, Sarkela faces a prison sentence of up to five years.
