Idaho Falls police arrested an Ammon man early Saturday after he reportedly threatened another man with a firearm.

Seth A. Weisser, 31, was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault after he approached two people assisting an intoxicated female friend into a car.

The incident took place at 3:20 a.m. in a parking lot in the 1400 block of Northgate Mile.

Weisser told police he thought the woman was being battered and intervened, reportedly threatening the two people with a Ruger pistol.

Aggravated assault is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
