A 2 a.m. semi-truck crash blocked the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 for several hours Tuesday, forcing traffic to detour through Blackfoot.

Northbound traffic was blocked until 11:30 a.m., when the Idaho State Police opened one lane, Lt. Ismael Gonzales said. Both northbound lanes reopened at 4:45 p.m.

The accident happened outside Exit 93 into Blackfoot when George Riedel, 57, of Quebec, pulled his Wabash tractor-trailer onto the shoulder of the road to check a flat tire, according to an ISP news release.

Exit 93 is located outside Jensen Grove Park.

Peter Spicer, 55, of Pocatello, rear-ended him. Spicer was traveling northbound in a semi-truck hauling detergent in a double trailer, Gonzales said.

Spicer's truck tipped over onto the side of the road and both trucks caught fire.

The fire was extinguished and debris was cleared from the road.

Spicer was taken by ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. Riedel was uninjured.
