I.F. woman choked during fight

By Ruth Brown

An Idaho Falls woman was choked early Wednesday during an altercation with the man she was living with, authorities said.

Idaho Falls Police Department officers arrested Skyler David Norton for attempted strangulation, destruction of property and destruction of a phone line, police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said.

The fight started when

Norton, 29, returned around 1 a.m. to their home on the 1200 block of Susanne Avenue.

Norton reportedly started drinking and began arguing with and hitting Annette Reed, 30, Hansen said.

Reed and Norton are in a romantic relationship, Hansen said.

Reed tried to use Skype to make a call for help, but Norton destroyed the computer she was using, Hansen said.

He also reportedly destroyed a lamp and an end table before trying to strangle Reed.

After hearing the commotion, Reed's 10-year-old son, who was in another room, came and witnessed the fight.

Reed told the boy to run to the neighbor's house and call police, Hansen said.

Reed had minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Police arrived and arrested Norton. He remained in custody Wednesday at the Bonneville County Jail without bond.

Attempted strangulation is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
