REXBURG - An argument that turned into a physical confrontation be'tween two couples sharing a house in the Hibbard area Wednesday night led to a search by Madison County sheriff's deputies for a man who eluded them overnight.
Madison County law enforcement sent a reverse 911 call to warn area residents that a male suspect in the case had fled on foot. Deputies were concerned the man might seek refuge in someone's home.
Joe H. Schilder, 40, of Hibbard, was arrested Thursday morning for felony battery and was booked into the Madison County Jail.
Sheriff's Capt. Bruce Bowler said Schilder was unarmed when he was arrested around 7:30 a.m. after he returned to the residence to get his vehicle. Bowler said a deputy spotted Schilder, who tried to flee. The deputy pursued Schilder on foot to make the arrest.
Kathryn L. Reagan, 24, of Hibbard, also was arrested on felony aggravated battery charges and was held Thursday in the Madison County Jail.
Bowler said deputies were called to the scene of the altercation around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. He said three adults at the house were injured, as well as a baby, who reportedly was struck by Schilder.
Ambulance personnel from Madison Fire Department treated the injured. The incident re'mains under investigation.
