Husband accidentally wounds his wife

A Monday hunting trip came to an unfortunate end when a man accidentally shot his wife in the buttock with a 7 mm rifle.

The Irwin couple had been hunting earlier in the day. The gun accidentally fired about 7:15p.m. as 31-year-old Ian Malepeai was removing it from his pickup truck.

The bullet struck Malepeai's 31-year-old wife, Hailey Hodges. The incident happened near 3427 Swan Valley Highway, Bonneville County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Edwards said.

Hodges was transported by a Swan Valley ambulance to a hospital, Edwards said, although the report didn't specify which one. She was reported in stable condition.
