BLACKFOOT – Just about a year ago, Snake River cross country runner Kierra Jensen announced her plans to attend Southwestern College in Kansas, becoming a member of the Moundbuilders.
She has since finished her senior year at Snake, gathered up all of her scholarships and other awards and made the trip to Kansas to join her new teammates at Southwestern College.
Results of her first two collegiate cross country meets have now come in and Kierra is doing quite well thank you.
In her first race, at McPherson College Carol Swenson Invite, the women’s team finished in second place and Jensen was a big part of that effort as she had a top 10 finish along with Daegiona Wilson and Kacie Lancaster from the Moundbuilders. As a team, they finished in second place behind York College. Her time for the race was 21:26.7 and she finished in eighth place overall which bodes well for a successful season in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Less than a week later, the team traveled to Augusta, Kansas to take part in the JK Gold Classic, hosted by Wichita State University.
The ladies were able to finish in fifth place as a team, the second best showing of teams from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. In this race, Jensen finished in 24th place overall, second on her team, just 2.6 seconds behind teammate Daegiona Wilson.
With this encouraging start to the season for the Lady Moundbuilders, they will have to wait for their next competition, as they will have a hiatus of nearly a month before seeing action once again.
