Kate Taylor has been recognized as 2016 Member of the Year for her exceptional leadership in healthcare management as administrator of the Challis Area Health Center. After 18 years in the position, Kate stepped down from her position in April to serve as Special Projects and Grants Administrator. Thanks in part to her efforts as the clinic administrator and her personal commitment to improving healthcare in the community since 1998, Challis residents will have improved access to primary care services thanks to a $1.19 million grant awarded to North Custer Hospital District designating Challis Area Health Center as a federally qualified health center. The funding will enable the clinic – the community’s only primary urgent-care facility – to hire more mid-level providers and expand services to include mental health and dental care. Challis Area Health Center also forged a partnership with Bengal Pharmacy, a full-service telepharmacy that will serve Challis and the surrounding region. The clinic successfully partnered with Bengal Pharmacy after Challis’ only pharmacy was about to close, forcing residents to travel nearly 60 miles to nearest full-service pharmacy.
