Harley and Eileen Wallis celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day.

The couple married Nov. 23, 1952, in Tendoy. The wedding was at the home of Eileen’s parents — Evan and Eva Jenson.

The Wallises settled in the Pahsimeroi Valley in 1961 to raise their family, after living in Moscow; Potrerillos, Chile; Leadville, Colorado; and Grants, New Mexico.

They raised five children: Maurice Wallis of Twin Falls, Ileta Gerard, now deceased, Celestia Johnson of May, Norman Wallis of May and Denise Winter of Clearmont, Wyoming. Their home was always open to neighborhood children and grandchildren who needed a safe haven.

Eileen taught in the Challis school district for 38 years, eventually teaching grandchildren of some of her first students. Harley has been a rancher since moving to the Pahsimeroi. He has been a member of many community and county boards and committees.

The couple celebrated their anniversary with a Thanksgiving meal and gathering.
