More work along the East Fork of the Salmon River was recently completed by another AmeriCorps team.
Ten young adults helped advance ongoing efforts by the White Clouds Preserve to improve river conditions with the goal of helping to preserve the salmon population.
Team members were on the East Fork from October through December tackling riparian restoration. They planted cottonwood and willow trees to repair sections of degrading river bank and installed fencing and cages to protect the young trees.
Team members installed beaver dam analogs to edit the flow of the river. That project’s goal is to change the structure of the river to encourage salmon migration and spawning.
The team members built a float and entered the Challis Christmas parade, visited recreation sites in the area, painted the inside of the Challis Community Event Center and delivered Meals on Wheels for the Challis senior center.
