Four Challis High School athletes competed in the second cross country meet of the season held Aug. 30 at West Jefferson.
Nicholas Dizes and Riley Shaw ran in the boys' competition. Dizes placed 22nd with a time of 21:29. Riley Shaw had technical difficulties with his timing chip, so did not receive an official time. Based on his coach’s stopwatch, he ran 24:50, improving his time over last year.
On the girls' side, Hannah Aldous and Jessica Hild also competed. Aldous placed 30th with a time of 28:10.4, a minute faster than last years’ time. Hild placed 37th with a time of 32:28.7. She pushed through the pain of shin splints to improve her time by more than 4 minutes from last year.
Three Challis Junior High School youths are running this year, too, coach Peggy Redick said. All three are sixth-graders. Parker Banks had his debut race. He placed 62nd out of the field of 162 runners, with a time of 13:36.2. He was in the top 10 of sixth-graders. Taylor Redick and Jessa Hunt ran the girls' race, which had a field of 145. Taylor Redick placed 30th with a time of 14:12.8 and was eighth overall for sixth graders. Hunt placed 48th with a time of 15:02 and was the 13th-place finisher among sixth graders.
All the Challis runners are improving and looking forward to how they continue to improve throughout the season, coach Redick said.
The next race is Friday, Sept. 7, the Community School-Wood River Invitational in Sun Valley.
